I have a confession to make. I am a chocoholic. Yup, that’s me! Someone who cannot live without chocolate. I eat a piece of chocolate almost daily, and I love it in all shapes and forms. I’ve preferred chocolate over any other kind of sweets all my life but as an adult I’ve come to appreciate it even more. I now know is not just about how much chocolate I eat but about the quality of the experience. Of course eating a lot of chocolate does not hurt either, but I now prefer to take the time to enjoy a good piece of chocolate and pair it with other great products like wine.
I recently hosted a Wine and Chocolate tasting party using exquisite Lindt chocolate and J. Lohr wine. Scroll down this post and get my tips on how to host a Wine and Chocolate Tasting Party.
In order to have the best experience you need to get the best products. For our tasting party, my friends at Lindt sent me a full kit of succulent chocolate and wine from J. Lohr Vineyards. Here is what we tried:
- Lindt EXCELLENCE Pineapple paired with J. Lohr Estates Riverstone Chardonnay
- Lindt EXCELLENCE Intense Orange paired with J. Lohr Estates Bay Mist White Riesling
- Lindt EXCELLENCE Sea Salt paired with J. Lohr Estates Falcon’s Perch Pinot Noir
- Lindt EXCELLENCE Chili paired with J. Lohr Estates South Ridge Syrah
- Lindt EXCELLENCE 70% Cocoa paired with J. Lohr Estates Seven Oaks Cabernet Sauvignon
Give out goodie bags:
If you serve the same wine and chocolate pairings that I did, your guests will love it all. So make sure you put together goodie bags. A fun tip is to welcome each guest with a bag of chocolate that will serve as the chocolate they will taste at the party. Then can then use the same bag to refill with more of their favorite chocolate. With Lindt this is easy as they offer a bag of mix chocolate and you get to try different favors . This bag is perfect for a tasting party.
Have a game plan:
Pairing chocolate with wine is a sensory experience. Separately, chocolate and wine deliver exquisite flavors. Paired together, the flavor is intensified. That’s why you need to know ahead of time how to pair wine and chocolate. Lindt knows this, and they actually offer detailed recommendations for wine and chocolate pairings that elevate the chocolate taste experience.
Also, you’ll need to know the process for tasting wine and chocolate. Here’s how:
- First, taste both the chocolate and wine individually.
- Then, take another piece of chocolate and savor the taste as it slowly melts in your mouth.
- When the last lingering notes of chocolate are all that remain, take a sip of wine.
- Hold the wine in your mouth, allowing it to coat you palate.
By doing this, you’ll notice the complex changes in taste as the wine mingles with the residual chocolate flavor.
Having a palate cleanser is also important. Water, plain bread, or wedges of apple work well. They help clean your palate so the flavor from one chocolate to the other do not interfere with the experience.
Something to take notes:
The great thing about tasting parties is that they are an opportunity to try new flavors you might not get to on your own. During the tasting party, you and your guests will discover new favorites and will want to remember them for the future. For my party, I made tags and put them in the goodie bags for people to write down their top picks. I had extra tags for them to add to their bags as well as cute pencils that helped with the decor too.
Extra chocolate and wine:
The pairings suggested by Lindt are amazing and they go so well with fine wine like those from J. Lohr Vineyards. Lindt EXCELLENCE is made with the finest ingredients which is key for the ultimate chocolate pleasure experience. From all the chocolates we tried, Pineapple was our favorite hands down. Everyone was blown away by the subtle taste of pineapple. It was the best and it was completely unexpected.
Last but not least is to make sure you get to enjoy it with great friends. After the tasting experience, just have fun, keep trying other flavors and sipping on wine for the perfect end to any night.
Hosting a chocolate and wine tasting party was sooo much fun. If you would like to host one too, I am giving away a Lindt Chocolate Gift Box that will be ideal to host a Lindt Chocolate Perfect Pairing Party.
