Making easy dinners has become my motto recently. With baby #2 on it’s way, I now have less energy to spend making long and elaborate recipes. Take meatballs for example, they are supposed to be easy right? a comfort and different way to work with ground meat. But many recipes call for a huge list of ingredients and steps needed to make them. From chopping onions and garlic, to adding egg, bread crumbs and other veggies the list can go on and on. So when I found myself with ground turkey and a tub of Sabra’s Roasted Garlic Hummus, it was like a lightbulb went off. It all made sense and I knew right then that all my turkey needed was some hummus love.
Yes, that’s correct. I mixed ground turkey with the roasted garlic hummus and a touch of salt to taste. I am telling you, that’s all that it takes. My husband loved it so much that he recently requested this recipe again. This time I went a bit more fancy and added a few extra greek inspired seasoning but even without it, I found the plain turkey and hummus combination resulted in a really flavorful dish. The hummus adds all the great benefits of eating beans that you’ll want for your family, it has the texture that helps hold the meatball just like the egg or the bread crumbs would, plus is seasons the turkey with the amazing flavor of roasted garlic. It was simply genius and perfect for an on-the-go lifestyle.
If you rather include a kick of spices and herbs, then add the rest of the ingredients on the recipe below. I am not going to lie, they really take these meatballs to another level.
Once all your ingredients are well combined and the meatballs are formed you can cook them to your liking. I ended up placing them on skewers and asking Mr. B. to grill them for us.
This beautiful presentation was inspired by a recent trip to the Sabra Dipping Co. factory in Virginia. They showed us how to dress up classic hummus with toppings and flavors of our own. This is why I started my meatballs presentation with a thick layer of hummus and topped it with the meatballs, roasted pine nuts and some extra herbs. Gorgeous right? and so simple!
Here’s part of the feast I got to try during the Sabra trip. They offer twelve other great hummus flavors aside from their classic hummus. yes twelve! They are all incredibly delicious and creative. After a full day eating all the hummus in the world, I truly just wanted to just keep eating more.
We also got to learn that sabra not only offers hummus but Greek yogurt dips, salsas, guacamole, and mediterranean salads. Their factory was world class and so impecable. People and the culture was so friendly, I could visit there any time.
Based on the concept of having an extra toping on the hummus, our friends at Sabra asked us to create our very own topping for a classic hummus base. They would later taste them all to pick a winner. This was my entry which did not win but it definitely was a hit. I added: chili oil, pickled onions, roasted corn, chopped cilantro and smoked sea salt. Oh my, oh my… please try it at home. If not this combination, just top your traditional Sabra hummus with interesting flavors you enjoy, grab some pita, and be ready to impress your guests. Such a neat idea.
