It is known that role playing can enhance learning in both adults and children. I particularly get very excited when I see Little L. playing on her own and pretending to be a character or that she is at a different place other than our living room. This shows me how creative she can be and how she is using her imagination which is key for child development. This also is a great sign of her communications and language skills as she uses her words to describe a completely new scenario.
Since she was a baby I’ve encouraged make believe games and she has always loved me as a doctor, princess, dinosaur, or even as a girl friend. This has created a bond between us. Later on we used to pretend to cook and having a play kitchen was a great help to develop her love for cooking and being a great host. She countless of times would make us coffee, cookies, and soup. She is now helping me cook real food, and I am pretty certain her play kitchen helped develop her interest.
