Today I want to bring you with me on a trip that many of us don’t get to experience often or maybe at all. I was lucky to be invited by the New York Beef Council and sponsored by Moyer Beef to attend a Beef Farming Tour and I want to tell you all about it.
We visited the Ameele farm in upstate New York and were hosted by Mike Ameele a third generation farmer with a huge passion for the land and ethical husbandry. After being inspired by his father and grandfather, he started to farm with his wife part-time and now runs full-time one of the largest beef farming family owned operations in the area.
I went on this tour with a group of bloggers, registered dietitian nutritionists as well as other farmers all very excited to see the wonderful care that is given to the animals raised for beef production.
Something I was surprised to learned is that they grow all of their own feed for the cattle which is very important to guarantee the quality of what they get to consume. It was evident that cattle farmers keep their animals’ health and well-being as a top priority.
My favorite part of the trip thou was to see the joy in the face of the farmers when they would talk about what they do and why they do it, which is for the love of farming.
Sharing so close with the cattle was also an unforgettable experience.
Later we ended the day on a high note with an amazing dinner sponsored by Moyer Beef where we got to eat superb grilled strip steaks provided by Moyer Beef.
Thank you Ameele Farm for what you do and being a great source of beef for brands like Moyer. Moyer partners with over 4,000 small family farms across the Northeast to support the local economy, as well as future generations of family farmers. The Ameele Farm is just one of the so many family owned farms that are part of the very first steps where our food comes from and do such a great job in keeping that industry going.
Disclosure: This post is part of a compensated campaign, but as always all recipes and opinions are 100% my own. Thanks for supporting the great brands that I get to work with and that make it possible for new content to be created for you on Hungry Food Love.
